چکیده

Abstract Background Antimicrobial resistance is one of the most serious global health threats facing world today. The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) a clinical environment that houses newborn infants who are highly susceptible to overwhelming infection. Early and decisive treatment with powerful anti-microbials tends be preferred choice for treating sick empirically. Prolonged exposure antimicrobials can result in multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs), which associated mortality due an increase virulence, delay appropriate treatment, lack options. An updated antibiogram important determining optimal empirical antimicrobial sepsis evaluations. There currently susceptibility data bacterial pathogens Northern Alberta region. Objectives objective this study understand antibiotic patterns among isolates responsible bacteremia meningitis NICUs through standard antibiograms produced by microbiology laboratories. Design/Methods We conducted retrospective analyze found during 2013-2021 Alberta. Bacteria isolated from blood cerebrospinal fluid according commonly used antibiotics were collated create provincial antibiogram. Results A total 5562 included frequently Escherichia coli (1521), Staphylococcus aureus (1157), members coagulase-negative staphylococcus (534), Enterococcus faecalis (326), Klebsiella pneumoniae (357) populations. Among 1157 S. isolates, 24% oxacillin (i.e., “methicillin-resistant aureus” or MRSA) 1% vancomycin “vancomycin-resistant VRSA). Of 326 strains spp., there no vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) identified. gram-negative 251 out 2690 (9.6%) producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), 52% 94% gentamicin amikacin respectively. non-ESBL-producing E. (1521) K. (357), 7% gentamicin. Conclusion useful tool best inform clinicians on agent based identified invasive infections within Our findings these aid next steps developing stewardship program.

The erratic antibiotic susceptibility patterns of bacterial pathogens causing urinary tract infections

Increasing trend of antibiotic resistance and expression of Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamases (ESBLs) are serious threats for public health as they render the treatment ineffective. Present study was designed to elucidate the antibiotic-susceptibility patterns of ESBL and non-ESBL producing E. coli and K. pneumoniae causing urinary tract infections so that the ineffective antibiotics could be r...

Invasive Bacterial Pathogens and their Antibiotic Susceptibility Patterns in Jimma University Specialized Hospital, Jimma, Southwest Ethiopia

BACKGROUND Presence of microorganisms in the circulating blood whether continuously or intermittently is a threat to every organ in the body. Approximately 200,000 cases of bacteraemia occur annually with mortality rates ranging from 20-50%. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of these infections can make the difference between life and death. The aim of the present study was to determine...

Antibiotic-resistant gram-negative bacterial infections in patients with cancer.

Patients with cancer are at high risk for infections caused by antibiotic resistant gram-negative bacteria. In this review, we summarize trends among the major pathogens and clinical syndromes associated with antibiotic resistant gram-negative bacterial infection in patients with malignancy, with special attention to carbapenem and expanded-spectrum β-lactam resistance in Escherichia coli, Kleb...
